Thumbs down A single woman with dead grass

It is generally assumed that the lawn care is “mans work” but I am a single woman who owns her own home which came with an ugly lawn. The grass is dead or dying and there are patches where there is no grass at all. I’m not too proud to say I need help and wondered where I might find information about some kind of lawn clinic to help me understand what needs to be done to improve my lawn and make it something I can be proud of. The lawn is in such poor shape it seldom needs to be mowed, which really upsets me because I bought a nice riding mower to take care of my lawn; now I just need a lawn to take care of. If you could direct me to where I can find information about lawn clinics that would be very helpful; I’d rather try to fix the problem myself before consulting a professional and paying big money for something I can probably do on my own.
