Post My Garden Is Not A Buffet

This is the first year that I have decided to put out a vegetable garden but I am afraid that after all my work some of my plants are being eaten by a variety of wildlife that wanders through our yard. I want to put up a fence but I’m not sure what kind of material to use and if it will, in fact, keep out the free-loaders looking for an easy meal. What I need to know is how high I should make the fence, what is the best type of fencing, and should I completely enclose the garden to keep birds out as well? I’ve tried some scare tactics by placing cans or bells on sticks all around the garden, but the critters seem too smart for that. What suggestions do you have to help me keep my garden from being an “all you can eat” buffet for the local wildlife in my area?
