Need a good recipe for sauerkraut
When I lived down south every year we would bring bushels of cabbage to a lady who would make the best sauerkraut I’ve ever tasted. She passed away a few years back and now I have the idea of trying to make it myself. I planted a garden devoted to mostly cabbage which means I’m going to have a large quantity of cabbage and nothing to do with them unless I find the perfect recipe. I’m hoping that somebody here can share a bit of their family secret in the art of making and canning sauerkraut. No matter when you opened the jar of kraut it was always crispy and fresh; that’s what I’m looking for. I have yet to find any store bought kraut that matches her homemade kraut. My neighbors watched me plant all this cabbage and had to ask what I was going to do with so much of it. I told them what I was planning and now I have numerous orders for a jar of my own homemade sauerkraut. All I need now is a recipe; sure hope somebody can help me or I’ll be eyeball deep in cabbage.
