Showing off my Garden

I live in a community that all our neighbors have beautiful flower gardens and very detailed landscaping. We do all our gardening ourselves without hiring outside professionals. I thought it would be nice to have gardening events throughout the summer so each of us could show off our gardens and share secrets among each other. What do you suggest in how I can arrange these events to include all of our neighbors in our community? Should we make it an evening event with a cook out or just snacks and drinks? Or should we make it an afternoon event with people dropping by one by one? My husband, whom works very hard on the garden himself, thinks I should make it a “ladies” thing and exclude the men, but I think it would be better to make it a family event to bring our community closer together. What do you think is the best way to arrange this event?
